Portfolio Preview - Trafalgar Investment Advisers, LLC Trafalgar Investment Advisers, LLC

Challenge: Trafalgar Investment Advisers, a personal investment firm based in the western suburbs of Chicago, was looking to create a stronger web presence to help build its clientele. The company wanted the site to integrate with its current blog to allow readers another place to go for more information and help create additional revenue with more clients.

Solution: The key issue for Trafalgar was to provide information to current and potential clients in a simple, visually appealing manner. The information was available, it just needed to be organized to entice the audience. We created an rss feed to show the title of the most recent blog post from the company's already existing blog. The site displays this post on each page for easy access to the full article. We also implemented a custom stock ticker to display in the banner of each page with stocks that were chosen by the company. Now clients have access to the information they need right at their fingertips.

Portfolio Preview - SCC Cleaning Company SCC Cleaning Company

Challenge: SCC Cleaning, a janitorial company in northern Illinois, has been building up used equipment over time that was often tossed out or given away. The company's assets were deteriorating and because the company had no good way to tell people about their leftover equipment, they were missing out on significant additional income.

Solution: We approached SCC with an idea for an e-commerce site loosely based on the eBay model. We set up a site for them with listings for all of their used equipment and implemented both category-style navigation and a custom product search. For each piece of equipment we included a set of photos of the product and the companies asking price for the used product. Customers could then place an order for the product where they would be contacted by SCC, and could make their offer for the equipment. We also developed an administrator portal where SCC managers could log on to the site, see pending purchases and quantity of equipment remaining, they could add/edit/remove products and could upload new photos of equipment if they chose to. This new site has helped SCC Cleaning to capture some missed income and allowed them to create value for their old equipment.

Portfolio Preview - eTUSC 2.0 eTUSC 2.0 - University of Notre Dame (link unavailable - private site)

Challenge: The basic challenge for the University of Notre Dame was that their current process for course registration was paper-based and extremely slow. They were in dire need of a new, electronic system.

Solution: We began by familiarizing ourselves with the current database used by the registrar’s office at the university. We then designed a layout that would be both aesthetic and cleanly display large amounts of course data to the user. After we accomplished this we spent much of our efforts on implementing a system for displaying course data from the database and updating course data on the fly from user input. In addition to this application we also developed an extensive administrator portal that allowed the registrar’s office to view pending changes to the course database and approve/deny changes when necessary. This system was successfully developed in the spring of 2009 and will be used by the university to register courses in the following semester.

Portfolio Preview - Indiana District of Circle K International Indiana District of Circle K International

Challenge: The Indiana District of Circle K International previously had a basic website with little style and no functionality. They needed a place where Circle K members and administrators from all over the state could get information about the district.

Solution: We began by talking to administrators and club officers of the district to understand what the true needs were for the district. We then developed a site that featured a fresh appearance and all the information the members needed. The site also included a resources area where members could download essential forms and training materials for their clubs. Finally, we developed an online registration page where club officer could register members of their clubs for events and conventions and district administrators could log in, check the registrants from an online database or download reports to pdf and excel.

Portfolio Preview - U of Art U of Art (link unavailable - private site)

Challenge: U of Art began as a senior project for the Mendoza College of Business at the University of Notre Dame. The idea was relatively simple, a group of entrepreneurship students wanted to create a business on campus which would gather artwork created by students all over campus and sell prints to other students online.

Solution: The two most important things about the U of Art site were to create a very aesthetic design and implement a straightforward backend for managers. After designing a layout that was more than impressive to the managers, we implemented the functionality. Using a custom online database, we developed a site that allowed users to view, tag, and comment on pictures, order prints and originals, and even upload their own work. We also developed an administrator portal where managers could log into the site, add/edit/remove art, users and orders, and even download and print custom reports for their business.
